VOTERS ALERT! Your Vote Matters! The critical August primaries are only days away: please take a moment to review the following information and mark your calendar to be sure you vote. August Primary Elections Tuesday, August 14, 2012 Voting at Town Hall Polls open 6 am-8 pm The primaries for the two open seats being vacated by U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman and U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy have attracted considerable media and voter attention as two of the most closely watched 2012 Congressional races in the country. There is both a Democratic and a Republican primary in our 5th Congressional District. On the Democratic side, House Speaker Chris Donovan faces former state Rep. Elizabeth Esty, and Dan Roberti, a newcomer from Kent. On the Republican side, Sen. Andrew Roraback faces challenges from Lisa Wilson-Foley of Simsbury, Mark Greenberg of Litchfield, and Justin Bernier of Plainville. In the U.S. Senate race both party's will have a primary. On the Democratic side U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy will face off against former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, while Republican Linda McMahon battles former U.S. Rep. Chris Shays on the Republican side. To vote, you must be enrolled in a party. Voters have until noon August 13 to register with one of the two major parties if you want to vote in this very important August 14 primary. Confirm your voter registration on the website of the Secretary of the State's Voter Registration Look Up www.ct.gov/sots/cwp/view.asp?a=3&q=415810. Another helpful site, hosted by the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, answers all voter-related questions. Visit www.lwvct.org/for-voters.html and you'll find any information you might need. **Important Information** August 9 Mail-in deadline to register to vote and for unaffiliated voters to enroll in a party by mail. August 13 noon Last date to register in person by visiting Town Hall or for unaffiliated voters to enroll in a political party. ****** Voters wishing to change party affiliation must do so three months before a primary. That deadline expired in May. Absentee Ballots Absentee ballots become available 21 days prior to the primary election. You may download the application: www.sots.ct.gov/sots/site/default.asp or by calling your Town Clerk's office. The absentee ballot will be mailed to your address once the application has been received. ************************************************ Holiday Happenings: The Green Fair July 8: The annual Green Fair to benefit the First Congregational Church was a great success despite the heat and humidity. Neighbors, friends, and weekend guests flocked to the Green for the silent auction, hay rides, delicious food, tag sale - fun for adults and children alike.
