As 2012 unfolds with the promise of challenging Presidential, Senate, and House reelection campaigns, your Washington Democratic Town Committee (WDTC) is already working to galvanize the efforts and support of our community to ensure Democratic success on both local and national levels. Here's a brief summary of this month's news: NEW!!! MONTHLY WDTC WEBSITE UPDATES The WDTC understands how important it is to keep in touch with the community in a timely and consistent way. In an effort to build a continuing dialogue among Committee members, volunteers, neighbors and friends, the WDTC plans Monthly Website Updates that will summarize important news and developments impacting our community, and keep you informed about the work we are doing to advance the mission and values of our Party. We want very much to hear from you as well: email info@washingtondems.org with any opinions, comments, or questions you have and we'll answer ASAP. We hope you enjoy this new addition to our website and encourage you to visit it regularly! BUILDING A DATABASE OF YOUR EMAIL ADDRESSES Do email your address to info@washingtondems.org We're eager to build a database of email addresses of all registered Democrats in the community that will enable us to keep in touch with you on important issues and initiatives quickly and more effectively! MANY THANKS TO ALL OUR NOVEMBER 2011 ELECTION VOLUNTEERS! Our warmest thanks and appreciation go out to all the tireless volunteers who worked so hard on the 2011 November election campaign for Selectmen and other community posts. Special thanks, of course, go to Wayne Hileman and his family for their time, effort, energy, and commitment during an exhausting race, and to Susan Jahnke and all the other candidates for their hard work and dedication. Despite the outcome, we all learned a great deal from the experience and will certainly apply valuable lessons to help ensure success as we go forward. TONY BEDINI ACCEPTS POSITION OF THIRD SELECTMAN We are delighted that Tony Bedini has accepted the post of Third Selectman, following the resignation of Susan Jahnke. Tony has a long list of impressive credentials as a skilled and committed community volunteer, and currently serves on the Board of Education and the Inland Wetlands Commission. Recommended by the WDTC and vetted by the First Selectman, he assured all that his other commitments will not interfere with his work as a Selectman. Moreover Tony, formerly an Independent, has now joined us as a registered Democrat and has agreed to report back to the WDTC on a continuing and regular basis. We wish him great success in his new post, welcome him to the Democratic Party and, familiar with his distinguished past record of service to the community, look forward to his invaluable contributions to the Board of Selectmen. REELECTION OF CURRENT WDTC MEMBERS At our first 2012 meeting on January 12, currently serving members of the WDTC were reelected with the exception of two long-serving members who resigned after having been on the Committee for many successive terms. Michelle Gorra and Diana Hardee made exceptional contributions to our work. We thank them for their dedicated service to the WDTC and wish them continued success through their many other activities on behalf of the community. NEWLY ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE WDTC Four of our neighbors contacted the WDTC to volunteer as potential members of the Committee, and after its review and consideration, were elected as members. They are: Lawrence O'Toole, Mike Sivick, Edward (Ted) Bent, and Joan Kaplan. Their respective biographical notes appear on the "Who We Are" section of the website. Our thanks go to them for their willingness to contribute time and expertise to the work of the WDTC on behalf of all of us in our community. We are delighted to have them join us! Eager to enhance and expand community involvement in the WDTC, we considered increasing the number of members on the Committee from 18 to 25. Having voted to do so during the January 12 meeting, the process of changing the By-Laws was approved at the February 23 meeting. We invite anyone interested in serving on the Committee to contact us info@washingtondems.org We'll be delighted to explain what we do and explore how your interest and skills can best serve our Party and the residents of Washington.
