What We Do
The Washington Democratic Town Committee (WDTC) acts on many different fronts. Our main action goals are:
- Seek out and encourage qualified Democrats to run for, and serve in, elective public office;
- Select party-endorsed candidates for municipal offices and delegates to state and district conventions of the Democratic Party of Connecticut;
- Promote the candidacies of the nominees of the Democratic Party for municipal, district, state, and national elective public office;
- Support Democratic election campaigns in Washington CT and assist these nominees;
- Search for and recommend qualified Democrats for appointive public office;
- Ensure all Washington Democrats the opportunity to participate fully in the electoral process, by informing and assisting them in the exercise of their voting rights;
- Analyze potential improvements to local government and recommend them to elected officials, as well as to our fellow citizens;
- Broaden citizens’ participation in the political process, by raising their awareness of the opportunities and issues facing our town;
- Study pending municipal, state, and national legislation of concern to Washington CT and seek to influence its favorable resolution;
- Sponsor constructive Democratic Party activities;
- Support the principles of the Democratic party and form alliances with other groups—Democratic, Republican or Independent—in the furtherance of these principles; and
- Raise funds to support any of these activities.
